Oh, our little ones! We love them so. There is no doubt that there is a pile of toys in the house somewhere, whether it be in the living room, a playroom or their bedroom, there are inevitably some toys that in the beginning when first received are fun to play with. It’s all fun and games until someone loses the pieces to said toy. You search high and low, over and under, you wrack your brain trying to think of places where these pieces could’ve gone. But the search is futile, until one day, you stick your hand in the cushions of your couch and pull out the missing piece. What are some of these toys you ask?
1. Nerf Darts
Oh my goodness, how my son loves his Nerf guns. He has a blast with them. But in retrospect, I should’ve gotten him a super soaker. You can’t lose water, which is Super Soaker’s ammo. But Nerf darts? Oh, that is a totally different story. Those suckers are masters at hiding. You could’ve sworn it was stuck to that railing two seconds earlier, so where the hell did it go?
2. Lego Pieces
Oh, Lord. You haven’t been properly christened until you’ve stepped on a Lego in the middle of the night after getting up to use the restroom. Holy mother-of-pearl, those things hurt. You can feel the sting of tears come to your eyes when your foot makes contact. Everything gets blurry. Not really, but they sure aren’t pleasant to find with your feet. What’s even worse is a screaming toddler yelling in your ear because they lost a piece, the one piece they need to finish their little Lego village.
3. Barbie Shoes
Ah, Barbie! The legendary doll that little girls (and boys!) around the world love to play with. She is quite the fashionable and trendsetting lady, too. Have you seen her clothes? How about her shoes? No, really, have you seen her shoes? This outfit just needs those black and white polka dot shoes to complete it! Otherwise, she looks like a total mess! Mom, find it, please! Once again, we likely will not find it until the middle of the night, on the stairway, with our barefoot, when Barbie’s heel stabs us right in the arch of our foot.
4. Play-Doh
Play-Doh is quite possibly one of the most enjoyable activities to play with your child. You get to see their creativity and artistic side, and you too can play with the colorful substances. It’s so much fun! Until five minutes later when our little ones get bored and walk away. But they forget they’re carrying a piece of Play-Doh, and they inevitably put it down somewhere. Somewhere that you won’t find it for oh, say maybe six months or so down the road, when it’s all icky and hardened. First, you recoil, wondering what that is underneath your sweet pea’s bed, then you flashback to that rainy Play-Doh day.
5. Shopkins
I feel like toy companies are out to get us, parents, as of lately. Why you ask? Let’s take the latest craze of Shopkins, for instance. Do you see how tiny these things are? Yes, it is totally adorable that our kids love to collect each new wave of these things until they start to lose them, and the tears ensue. These things are so tiny, that it would be hard not to lose them!
What are some of the toys that your children have lost and you have found – with your foot or otherwise?
A post that focuses on small, potentially deadly details. Really useful and enlightening!
We have all of these except Barbie shoes and ALL have missing pieces, but I still buy them because they’re fun. Who knows what someone will find in the vents when we sell our home in the future lol!
I don’t know about the others but darts and LEGO’s are a definite yes. Puzzles pieces also.
So true! My husband ended up buying a huge pack of nerf darts, because they could never find any when they wanted to have nerf gun battles. Now it’s a ton more to have to pick up! But any small toy is bound to get lost with my kids and somehow I always have to help them find them!
This list is absolutely spot on!! Except for playdoh, my step children can not be trusted with it so we don’t have it in the house at all.
The rest though… My goodness!! I found 2 nerf bullets and a barbie shoe in the first 5 minutes of being home today!
Lego…. I can always find those… But only while walking barefoot!
Where can that remote be? What about books? Cars? My kids love throwing toys in the ceiling only to find them missing after.
Lego has to be the worst one to just find – the pain just one lego brick can cause owch!

Reading this was spot on ! Play dough yes all the time !
I will always have a love hate relationship with those dang LEGO’s. My kids could never keep up with them and my poor feet seemed to find them LOL!
Absolutely! The worst part is not that the little toys get lost, the problem is when a pet such a cat or a dog find them and swallow them. I am glad that my kids are over playing with those little toys.
Ain’t this the truth! As well as learning puzzle pieces.
Haha, I can relate to all these toys… so many little pieces everywhere! Trying to keep them organized is impossible!

This is a hilarious post and so true! Its so crazy how it disappears until you clean the house and find them in random places.
You are so right. I just can’t find it out where the Lego pieces and nerf darts go !!! They just disappear…
My daughter is 4 and she loves play-doh. She can spend hours entertaining herself invested in an imaginary world, creating. Awesome, cheap tool to promote creativity.
I couldn’t agree more with the Lego. 😩
Loved this post! Seriously…. I lost so many of these so I can see things have not changed as far as toys that are easily lost as these are all ones that I lost growing up in the 80’s and 90’s. The only ones I did not have were the Shopkins but what a fun read 🙂 Thank you!
Ha, that is spot on. I find those nurf gun darts everywhere. The lego always go missing too, they used to have soo much more. And yes, I’ve trodden on loads.
yes to all of these!! The main one I am findoinf in all kinds of places around my house is Nerf darts. I even found one inside the bathroom light the other week.

My daughter loves shopkins!! We are totally getting more!!
Totally agree. Those nerf guns can be real expensive but they can easily be misplaced, too. same with those small lego pieces that ow so hurt my feet when I accidentally step on them,
Jennifer,
Great post!
This posts bring wonderful memories of my daughters growing up all those years – they both young adults now.
How can I forget stepping on Lego pieces in the middle of the night, as you so expertly described?
Thanks for sharing 🙂
Best,
Pedro
This is so true, especially with the Nerf darts! Those legos also can be pain if you don’t watch where you step.
Oh. my gosh you are so right about the playdoh and legos… LOL. I was banned from buying them for my nieces and nephews
I loved legos when I was little they are so fun. im pretty sure my mom still has all of them for when I have kids!
Oh yes this brings back lots of memories. I remember searching for hours with my kids when they lost either legos or doll pieces.
In my house, we can never find lego pieces and shopkins. I am often getting my kids to pick up after themselves so that they don’t end up in the vacuum cleaner
With play dough I guess it’s also losing the lids s it dries out, that’s what always used to happen to my parents when my brother used it x
It is frustrating when they lose parts for toys especially the clothing parts for dolls. They get so upset when it happens.
Lol. My girls lost things like barbie shoes and accessories. Those things are so darn small!
The girls have found their love for shopkins again and I am sick of them saying they’ve lost strawberry kiss haha

I chuckled along reading this and agreed to pretty much all! My kids are a nightmare for losing little bits and pieces from toys. Our play doh hasn’t been lost yet but the kids like to make things from it then leave it out and it goes all dry and hard and totally unusable! x

My husbands work used to have nerf wars all the time. He’s been at a different place for 13 years and I still find nerf darts everywhere!
Haha! I couldn’t agree more! My niece is so good at this 😂 losing pieces from her toys and then get upset! Love the post 🙂

Great ideas for toys. I know the kids I teach love Legos!
My kids are always losing them, and my vacuum is always finding them! All those little pieces are highly desirable but so hard to keep track of.
Oh gosh legos, those mf are a pain when you step on them in the middle of the night, the play dough is better lol.

Haha! I remember losing nerf darts as a kid! We’ve lived in the same house our entire lives and even as grown adults, we’re STILL finding nerf darts here and there :p
I don’t have any kids, but I can still vouch for those first two based on my nephews’ ability to lose ALL their Nerf darts and Lego pieces ahah! This is hilarious!
We are always losing legos in our house.
Gah, nerf darts! When we moved the last time, we found ALL the darts. They were seriously everywhere. The kiddo managed to keep his legos contained (thankfully!), but I think he also had some help from the cat in losing the nerf darts.

Haha yes. My daughter has a playset with little food and we are constantly losing the lettuce! (And finding in the cushions weeks later.)
There are no kids in my house, but let me tell you how many dog toys we lose for months on end and then find in random places! But squeaking a dog toy by accident is much better than stepping on a lego brick or Barbie shoe!
